Reginald was educated at Wilton Public School. His occupation was General Labourer when he enlisted at Sydney in August 1914 and served in the 1st Australian Light Horse. He departed Sydney on the 'Star of Victoria' 20 October 1914.

He had previously served in the NSW Mounted Rifles as Lieutenant in the Boer War. Photo is Reginald in his Boer War uniform.

Sergeant Reginald Sydney SMITH received a gunshot wound to the head resulting in a fractured skull on 18 May 1915 while on active service at Gallipoli. He died at the 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt on 19 Jun 1915 age 36.
